What are the possibilities for personalisation with live calligraphy?
- Bottles: Calligraphic engraving, accentuated with gold or silver, except on sparkling wines, where special colours are used for safety reasons.
- Perfumes and cosmetics: Personal messages on the bottles add a touch of luxury and intimacy.
- Christmas balls: Personalise with names or special greetings for a unique festive decoration.
- Stationery with your logo: Greeting cards and name cards that say more to the recipient.
- Metal plates or pendants: An ideal memento of an event or a practical gift with a personal touch. A brass plaque is very suitable, but must be lacquered. Inox is too hard for hand calligraphy engraving.

How is live product personalisation done?
We take centre stage, whether in your store or at a special event, to create a stylish corner for calligraphic personalisation. I write or engrave calligraphy on various materials.
Do you need to test the material or product?
Yes, any material to be engraved on at the event itself needs to be tested, because that's the only way I can ensure smooth personalisation in front of my customers. I would like to receive the products 10 days before the event, as it often requires the preparation of special live personalisation aids. Therefore, it is necessary to provide additional pieces for testing. I recommend that you involve me in the selection process at the time you are deciding on the personalisation product and the material it will be made of.
Is calligraphy engraving noisy?
The engraver is quiet because it is a table-top appliance, which makes less noise than an electric toothbrush. Only the contact of the drill bit with the substrate makes a sound. There is slightly less noise when it comes into contact with glass than when it comes into contact with metal such as brass. But it is still a noise that drowns out all conversation and activity in the room.

Can you engrave in a bar where it's dark?
No. I need good light for engraving or writing, and often, because of the small size of the products, a magnifying glass to provide a really good service. That's why I have my own table lamp with a magnifying glass for this purpose, if your event ambience is dark.
How much space do you need for personalisation?
I need a normal office desk approx. 70 cm high and at least 90 cm wide, for the neat arrangement of materials and ancillary materials. It's great if the table also has an extra shelf where you can prepare your products to be engraved or enhanced with calligraphy.
Do you need help from our staff for your presonalisation?
Help is welcome to interact with customers and, in the case of engraving on products already purchased, almost essential to ensure that the products already purchased are tracked and that the right inscription for the specific product is used.

How many products can you make in one hour?
When engraving and writing calligraphy in person, we limit ourselves to three or four words. You can even just name it. This way we can personalise up to 40 products per hour. For certain holidays, you can also choose a shorter slogan for your company to speed up personalisation. This way, I don't stay too long with one customer, but everything goes faster and is more attractive for the customers. In case the customer wants a different personalisation on site, the rest of the orders and customers are waiting. Therefore, I suggest that it is clearly marked at the event what kind of personalisation it is, set limits and make proposals clear.
If the product needs to be personalised, or if something needs to be glued, fixed, wrapped, it is better to use your additional staff to do this, so that the time for engraving can be optimally used without additional procedures to complete the personalisation.
Customers can also book a personalisation. This way, personalisation is prepared in advance for these clients, which is a great option for events where you are preparing gifts for all participants (goodie bag).

Are there any restrictions on materials?
I don't engrave on bottles under pressure:
Very rarely, but never in person, as the bottle can break and cause damage. I engrave pressure bottles to order and very carefully "single-line", in one stroke. I do not exaggerate the lines of the text to imitate the stroke of a calligraphic pen, which, because of its shape and its characteristic use, creates a broad vertical stroke. Hand engraving is also slightly deeper than laser. Engraving therefore interferes with the surface of the bottle and can change its physical properties. However, the bottles engraved so far have all survived the engraving and a few hours in the car.

Plastics
Plastic is a bit more difficult to engrave, so we test the product beforehand, depending on its composition and hardness.
- Toxins: Many plastics burn when engraved, releasing toxic gases that can be harmful. These gases may contain carcinogenic or otherwise harmful chemicals that pose a health risk if inhaled.
- Quality of the final product: some plastics can melt, curl or discolour due to friction during engraving, resulting in a poor quality final product that does not meet the standards of high-quality personalisation.

Engraving on wood
Not all wood is suitable for pyrography or engraving. The most suitable woods for pyrography are: willow, lime, beech, aspen, maple, cherry, poplar, birch and walnut. Spruce and similar soft woods are not suitable as the seasons are too pronounced, the tool is excessively indented in the soft part and the trace is not visible on the harder and darker part.
They absorb a lot of resins and oils, causing smoking.
- Pyrography, the burning of wood, is definitely preferable for wood, but it produces smoke and is therefore not suitable for use in front of clients.
- Smoke: burning wood produces smoke which is very disturbing in a sales environment. Smoke can also deposit soot on machinery and surrounding surfaces, requiring frequent cleaning and maintenance.
- Smell: The pyrography process produces a strong smell. Although some people may find the smell of certain woods pleasant, it may be too strong or undesirable in a confined space or at a crowded event.
- Variable quality: wood is a natural material with different densities, moisture contents and grain patterns, which can affect the consistency of the engraving. This variability causes the wood to chip when engraved and the strokes do not have clean lines. It is not possible to colour the finished text as is possible on glass.
